Stats update....At 18 months, Ryan was 25 lbs. 7 oz. - at 24 months, he is now 28 lbs. 4 oz.
At 18 months, he was 34" tall and now he is 34 3/4" tall. The boy is GROWING.

And if you are wondering,,, at this age Jacob was 26 lb. 11 oz. and 34 1/2" tall

Ryan turns TWO on Valentine's Day - or as we call it in our house - "Ryan's Birthday!!!" Feburary 14th. He loves cars right now so we are going to make him a cake with a road on it and some cars. I can't believe he will be two... Where did this past year go?!!!

So January has come and gone, and we didn't blog very much. Oops.

So, here's what happened in January in the Carter house:

- School started again.

- I took seven students to an honor band festival at UGA, which was awesome. Meanwhile, Tammy was left at home by herself, which was not awesome.

- The following week, Grandma and Papaw came! Then Tammy and I went to Savannah for three days while Grandma and Papaw stayed with the boys. I attended the state music educator convention, and we both got to hang out with old friends and enjoy great meals. We had dinner on Thursday night at Lady & Sons (Paula Dean's restaurant), courtesy of Fruhauf Uniforms. Dinner on Friday night was at Vic's on the River, courtesy of Art's Music Shop.

- Jacob is becoming a very good reader.

- Ryan is growing and learning new "tricks" every day. He's very cute!

This year I baked some fun things for gifts for all Jacob's teachers at church. On Wednesday nights he has 3 men teachers that rotate. We thought the best gift for them was baked goods! Thanks Jen for all the tips on the spiral cookies. The dough is the tastiest and chewiest sugar cookie ever!!

Ryan's favorite thing about Christmas

We dug out our wrapping paper box from under the bed. Since it is so large, there is NOWHERE else to put it so it stays in the living room until we are done wrapping. Ryan thinks it is the greatest thing ever...we certainly don't need to buy him any presents as this covers all the bases for him.

Uncle Pete (Red) - this phone you gave Jacob way back is also a favorite for Ryan. He calls his daddy several times a day :)

I found a fun craft idea on Pinterest...Making scarves out of t-shirts. I made a ton and sold a few at a craft fair today.

We started off the Friday before Thanksgiving with a picknic with Jacob at school. Cold and windy day - but such fun...Daddy got to come for a few minutes too!

Today I am thinking how thankful that I am enjoying a week off with all my boys AND my mom and dad. We are having such a nice relaxing time. Lots of little boy giggles in the house this week with Grandma and Papaw here! I feel so blessed and to have Hank around more is awesome too :) A nice break was needed by all.

This week has been busy for me. I had to get 3 different friends to watch Ryan so I could make some appointments. Thank you Christina for allowing me to go to the dentist. Today I am most thankful for my sweet Jacob. He's 5 and is really communicating with new words and more sentences these days. But - some days he's still a little confused...Cousin Ben wrote him a letter and mailed it to Jacob. So, we open it and read it and I tell Jacob that we need to write Ben a letter back. He says "ooo!! ok mommy what letter are we going to write to Cousin Ben? R? T?". Such cuteness is Jacob some days...We did write Ben back and it is good handwriting practice for both of them. I think they will be pen pals now :) Love it!

I am also thankful for Jacob's school and all the awesome teachers and administrators there. This Friday is a school-wide picnic under the pecan trees. I can't wait to go have lunch with him!

Today is Veteran's Day and as I ponder being a military wife, I honestly don't know how I could to it. I am thankful for men and women who go off to foreign lands for years at a time and miss births of their children, first steps, anniversaries and home cooked meals. Tonight after church we went to Taco Bell. My goofy boys scarfed down their food and then begged for ours the rest of the time. Once they gave up on that - they entertained us with making silly faces and sounds. Today I am thankful for non-quiet meals out :)

Now that we have our computer fixed, here are some pics from Monday. Ryan started out the day in his super cute football pj's - this has nothing to do with anything - but it's a cute picture :)

Hank worked on Jacob's costume earlier that day

and then off to CandyFest we went. Jacob was a huge hit as this was very original and probably our best costume for him yet.

Ryan was a cute little s'more. He's quite squishy - so that's why he had to be a s'more. A screamy, don't want to wear this, run away s'more - but nonetheless - he was cute for a brief moment the night.

At CandyFest, glowsticks are the best! We have a funny video of him walking with his tent on. Will post that later.

Today I'm thankful for a power bill that was $100 less than the past 4 months!!! SW Georgia is hot people - in case you didn't know...We love this time of year when the high's are in the upper 70's and lows in the 50's. I am also thankful for friends who are very dear to our family.

Yes, we have slacked on the blogging. October was crazy busy. Hank was working for most of it and by the 4th week I was just tired with a capital T. Anyway, I LOVE November and I LOVE Thanksgiving. It has always been my favorite holiday and reminds me of how much I have to be thankful for. I won't say I'm going to blog every day in November as I feel I should be thankful EVERYday - even when I don't blog about it. But for today - I'll just say that right now at this moment I have a cute 20 month old Ryan who is in his bed supposed to be taking his nap. Just checked on him and found that he had gotten his shirt off. So there he is standing up in his jeans and no shirt and cute fat little belly poking out. I am thankful that 20 months ago Ryan James came into our lives. He's loud, playful and never met any type of meat he didn't devour!! He makes funny sounds as he's trying to figure out how to say words - he even manages to "talk back" without words. He also managed to break furniture even before he started to crawl. But all that to say how much we love him just how he is and are so very thankful for him. He's gonna do great things.

I can't talk about being thankful with out also mentioning the other two boys in my life. Hank means the world to me and he is the best dad the boys could ever want. Jacob continues to make me smile as he is growing up to be such a sweet and smart little boy. He always thinks of others and loves to share - even his Halloween candy!! He remembers what your favorites are and offers them to you before he even takes for himself. He is like his daddy and likes to serve others - for that I am thankful on so many levels.

This month has just flown by! Hank has been busy with football games and band competitions so I guess that's made the weeks go fast. Here's a few pictures......These are mummy bars I made for Jacob's class party that he'll have on Monday. Thank you Pinterest! My new obsession..

Ryan loves to try and sit in and on things lately. Here's his attempt at trying to sit on the edge of the toy basket. It didn't work out the way he had planned.

Today we went to friends house to watch FL/GA game. They have an awesome backyard with lots to do.
The boys loved this jeep. We couldn't get Jacob out of it. He ran it out of battery twice!

Here we are for Cow Appreciation Day at our local Chick-fil-A - tons of fun - great craft project for Jacob - he wrote his own sign and made his hat and cut out and glued on all his spots! - oh yeah - and we all got free chick-fil-a - anything we wanted - LOVE Chick-a-lay!

Haven't blogged in a while, but here's what the boys have been up to lately:
Ryan discovered that pulling out Kleenex is tons of fun - notice he's not phased when I busted him

Jacob is doing some "school papers" as he calls them - we've been doing Summer Bridge worksheets a little each day during the summer. His handwriting has improved and so has his coloring!

Ryan figured out how to climb in the rocking chair today and he's quite proud of that

Good thing the weather is getting warmer and Jacob can wear shorts to school...little boys...the small hole he had when he left for school would come back a GIANT hole. I think it's funny that all are on the left leg. We have been in the 70's and 80's for a few weeks, but today it barely got out of the 50's so back to jeans. At least now they will make it through the rest of the school year.

Every March our church has a GIANT potluck at our sports park. This year the weather was perfect so we brought a kite to fly. Jacob had a blast and also enjoyed fishing in the pond. Ryan really just enjoyed all the yummy food :)

When Jacob is in high school, he will love it when we pass this photo out for some photo slide show HA!. When I picked him up today he had it on sideways and wore it that way all the way home. He showed me his name was on the back and said "mommy, you can not wear this hat because your name is not on it - only I can wear it". Got to love those crafts they do at the Pre-K!

I love this tree in front of our house. In the fall it gets bright orange leaves and in the spring we get these pretty while blooms before the new leaves come. It stinks when they bloom, but it's pretty :)

Ryan's First Birthday Cake

In the Carter family, we have a tradition of homemade, home-decorated birthday cakes. In 30+ years of my mom baking birthday cakes for me, we never had a store-bought cake. (One advantage of a birthday near Christmas was that Mom would bake me a birthday cake when I came home for Christmas break.) One of my favorites was very simple: a chocolate cake with a tuba on top.

It's one of our fondest memories of Mom. So, every birthday, we carry the tradition on, making memories for our boys.

Jacob's first birthday cake was Noah's Ark

His second birthday was a car,

and his third birthday was Curious George.

Last year Jacob had a swingset cake.

Ryan LOVES the toy farmhouse he got for Christmas (especially since it makes a lot of different noises - Ryan specializes in noises), so we decided he would like a farmhouse BIRTHDAY CAKE.

We started with a field made of cookie (too bad Uncle Pete Carter wasn't here to enjoy it with us)

Jacob had to learn his phone number for school, so I thought it might help if he knew what the number was for. I pulled out my phone, and together we dialed our home phone number. Hit "Call," and, viola, our home phone rang! Then we tried calling Mommy on her phone (since she was at the grocery store).

So a few days later I asked him if he wanted to call some other people. Here's his phone call with Grandma (he dialed the number himself).

Not much new to write about...other than the boys are taking turns being sick. Ryan had fever last week and Jacob has it this week. So - lots of napping (YAY) and indoor stuff. Praying for a well house soon!! Hank has been away lately. Last week he was away for 4 days with kids at an honor band in Athens. This week he's gone for 3 days to his annual conference in Savannah. So - I am using the quiet evenings to think about Ryan's birthday :). Started making him a cute little "1" t-shirt and am planning the cake. We are doing a barn cake for him to match his favorite toy at the moment. That's about it for January.

A few days ago, we visited the special Christmas light display at Acadian Village in nearby Lafayette, LA. Jacob loves Christmas lights, so he was enthralled. The rest of us enjoyed it, too!

And of course, it's Christmas Day! Christmas is very special for us this year; it's Ryan's first Christmas, and he gets to spend it with Grandma and Papaw. We enjoyed opening presents, plus a Christmas feast of smoked turkey, and wonderful time together.

This holiday season, remember the reason for the season. If you haven't read Luke 2 today, please take a moment right now to read and remember the miracle of Christmas.

Saturday was Hank's birthday. He had to go to a rehearsal that afternoon, so we celebrated bright and early after breakfast. Ryan enjoyed the wrapping paper - as did Jacob. I made an awesome chocolate cake, but it was devoured on Wednesday night at a party so no pictures. oops.. It was a great day for Hank/Daddy!

on Friday Hank had time to watch Ryan so I could go to Jacob's party at school. I worked in the "necklace" center and we had 4 groups of kids go around the room to do all the activities. Then we all ate cookies and chips :) There was singing too - Jacob's favorite thing about school I am convinced!

Spent the day today in Philly. Met up with Uncle Pete, Aunt Baby, and Paw-Paw, then went to see the Liberty Bell. But first, Ryan had his first plane ride. He didn't nap (we thought he wouldn't), so as soon as we got off the plane and put him in the stroller, he fell asleep. Meanwhile, he had fun.

Next, it was time to find some authentic Philly Cheesesteak. Uncle Pete's technology led us to a place called Jim's Steak. We walked a little less than a mile to get there, and we found a line that wrapped around the corner! We decided to go for it. If you look closely at the back of the line, you'll see us:

Afterwards, we drove to Wyomissing (near Reading), where my cousin lives. There were lots of family members there, including many whom we had not seen in years. (I didn't realize that Anna and Sara had not met any of the Carter boys!)

This past weekend we went down to Florida to visit Umpah and Nana Jan. I think Ryan and Umpah hit it off pretty well. :)

As always when we visit, Umpah helps Jacob with his coloring and this time with his letters.

It was just the 4 of us - but we went all out :) Hank brined a 10 lb. turkey and we roasted it today...Sooooo good. I made all the rest. We are truly thankful and blessed. You may notice Rayn is not in the pictures... He slept through it all...He had his turkey dinner in his baby food jar :)

I know it hasn't been a year - but we decided a trim was in order for Ryan. I really don't have much of an "after" picture because he still has his cute little spike. All we did was trim over his ears and in the back and a tiny bit off of the spike. Just wanted to post these because I think the first picture is too funny. The boy has no idea what is going on :)
