Safely in LA

Lousiana, that is.
Mommy and Daddy woke me up last night at 9:30 and put me in the car. We drove for a long time. I woke up at 2 a.m. to remind them I was back there -- I think they forget I'm in the back seat! It's really dark back there, you know. Anyway, we stopped for a little while, then they put me back in the car. The next thing I knew, we were at Grandmaw and Papaw's house! Daddy took me in the house, handed me to Grandma, and went straight to bed. Silly Daddy -- doesn't he know that you're supposed to go to bed at NIGHT, not first thing in the morning?! We're having a great time so far. Papaw said we get to eat crawfish on Tuesday. I've never had them, but Mommy and Daddy sure seem excited!

Our Week

Jacob's Daddy here.
Guess we'd better get on task -- we haven't blogged in a week!

On Friday of last week, the drumline spent the better part of 9 hours at Wal-Mart "drumming up" support for local tornado victims. They raised $3600 in donations -- including $1000 from Wal-Mart! They were featured on the local Fox and NBC news reports.

Jacob spent the end of last week and most of the weekend with a slight fever. Mommy took him to the doctor on Monday; he's fine now.

Meanwhile, I was trying to battle off a fever. Plus, on Wednesday, I went to the dermatologist to get rid of these:
There's 10 of them, and some of them hurt! So they froze them, and they should fall off in about a week. Number 5 and number 1 have already started to peel off, and number 6 is nice and tender, as you can see. (Aren't you excited about all the detail you're getting here?) I get to go back next month for another "cryo" treatment.

On Thursday, I came home from school early because Tammy was really sick and couldn't watch Jacob. But I had an after school rehearsal and a freshmen parent meeting that night, so Jacob got to come with me. He had lots of fun at band practice, then we had dinner, then went to the parent meeting. When I told one of the kids I was going to feed him, the kid looked at me and said, "I didn't know men could breastfeed!" After the laughter subsided, I explained that Jacob was definitely eating solid food now. He was a lot of fun at band rehearsal. I held him while the drum major conducted. Any time I turned so that he couldn't see the band, he squirmed until he could see them! I think he's already trying to decide what instrument he wants to play. I'm thinking we could use a good Horn player in the Carter band.....what do you think? Or how about bassoon? (Lots of scholarship money for bassoons and horns!)

So, Jacob is feeling better, and so is Mommy. We have one week of school before Spring Break! We're looking forward to spending the week with Grandma and Papaw Spell in Lousiana.

Meanwhile, I'm in a tie for 4th place in my bracket, pending tonight's late games. Go Oregon!

Daddy takes over (again)

We interrupt this blog to bring you an important message from Jacob's daddy:

-----
I would like to use some techinques I learned from Pete Crawford to describe the Lee County High School Wind Ensemble's results from Thursday's Georgia Music Educators Association District Two Large Group Performance Evaluation (also known as District Concert Festival):

plus a SUPERIOR in Sightreading equals STRAIGHT SUPERIORS, the HIGHEST rating possible!!!!!!!

The Symphonic Band also performed very well, earning an overall Excellent rating (with a Superior in sightreading).

Meanwhile, the drumline spent the ENTIRE DAY drumming in the Wal-Mart parking lot to "drum up" some donations to help tornado victims in our area. They raised over $2500!!!

I should also mention that all the Carter teams won their first round games in the Big Dance. Florida, Texas, KinTUKee and Purdue all advanced. Unfortunately for Purdue, they advanced to face the number 1 seed in the Midwest region, perhaps the most dominant team in the country -- yep, the Florida Gators.

So, here's a little quiz for you (another trick I learned from Queep, although mine will undoubtedly not be as funny):

1. Of all the high schools in GMEA District 2 who sent two concert bands to festival this weekend, how many have only ONE full-time band director?
a. 1
b. 2
c. 3
d. zero

2. Which forward/center leads the overall top seed in the NCAA Tournament?

a.

b.

c. Both A and B

d. Both A and B, and by the way, Al Horford (B) can push the ball upcourt better than some point guards.

3. Fill in the blank: Why did Pete Crawford pick Villanova to beat his alma mater, UK? ______________________________________________ (might need a little more room than this....)

4. Who is currently in 13th place (out of 14) in the LC Band Bracket Challenge?

a. me (nope)

b. Tammy

c. Pete Crawford, huge bball fan from the UK "powerhouse"

d. a couple of high school clarinet players who thought they were picking their favorite colors

ANSWERS:

1. a. I'm the only one.

2. d

3. Uh, Pete, wanna help us out here? Villanova all the way?

4. c. Tammy is actually in second place right now.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled blog involving Jacob. (He's still not feeling well, by the way.)

My New Toy

We know it's not Jacob's birthday yet - but we thought he needed a cool new toy. So, we got him a walker that converts to a rider with a wagon that you can pull behind. It's really cool! Jacob is working on 1 and possibly 2 more teeth so he's had fever and felt bad. He is also trying table food now. On green peas, he's about 1 for 20 in getting them in his mouth. He likes it though. That's abou it. We are counting the weeks till we go see Papaw and Grandmaw in Louisiana.

Gators earn a #1 seed in Big Dance

For the first time ever, the GATORS are a top seed in the NCAA Tournament! Between that and the third SEC Tournament championship in a row, today is a great day to be a Gator!

Jacob wants me to invite all of his family and friends to our bracket manager:

Food Factory

This is what I do on most Sunday's. Make baby food. Thanks for the little food prep Jenni! It works great. Not much else new. We are house hunting right now as we hope to get out of this apartment this summer. Jacob's great. Still trying to crawl - but nothing "official" yet. Stay tuned.
